Seamen's Welfare offers table tennis, billiards, a shop, television, telephone service, a bar and information about Amsterdam.

It is possible to overnight at this club which also offers a wide range of services and information for the seaman including arrival times and berthing places of ships, various magazines and newspapers, information about transportation and cultural and tourist attractions. The Home can be reached by Tramline 4, Keizersgracht halt.

Free medical treatment
Seamen and persons of all nationalities in international navigation may obtain free medical treatment for venereal diseases at the following address at Groenburgwal 44, tel. (020) 5555822, only by appointment.

IJmuiden, Velsen, Beverwijk

There are two hospitals in the area;
South of the locks is the Kennemer Gasthuis, Zeeweg 168 in IJmuiden. Tel. (0255) 575252, e-mail, internet
North of the locks is the Rode Kruis Hospitaal, 13 Vondellaan, 1942 LE Beverwijk. Tel. (0251) 265555, fax (0251) 222570.
Both hospitals also have facilities for medical check-ups for seamen. Telephone the hospital for an appointment.

The Apostleship of the Sea
Works in close co-operation with the Seamen's Welfare Center. For assistance, conversation or religious services, Loodskotterhof 3, tel. (020) 6333537. Mass can be celebrated on board.

The Church of England
Is located at Groenburgwal 42, services every Sunday at 10:30 and 19:30, tel. (020) 6248877.

The English Reformed Church
Is located at Begijnhof 48, services first and third Sunday of every month at 10:30, tel. (020) 6249665.

Deutsche Evangelische Gemeinde
Is located at J.J.Viottastraat 44, services first and third Sunday of every month at 10:30, tel. (020) 6732522, fax (020) 4712909.

Roman Catholic Services
Are held at the Catholic Center for foreigners, Begijnhof 30, every Sunday at 10:00 in Dutch and 11:15 in French. For information about other languages and nationalities call tel. (020) 62358853.

It is difficult to reach the centre of Amsterdam from the harbour by public transport, especially in the evening hours and in the weekends. The Seamen's club will usually be able to make arrangements for transportation, call telephone 020-6117912

From IJmuiden there is a bus number 82 that goes to Amsterdam.
Taxis in IJmuiden can be reached at telephone 0255-51 60 00, fax 0255-51 49 90.

Information about bus, train and tram connections in Amsterdam is available at 0900-9292 (75 cents per minute).

Train connections is throughout all of the Netherlands and to the rest of Europe can be made from Amsterdam Central Station, Stationsplein 15, telephone 0900-9296 (international), 0900-9292 (national, 75 cents per minute). Monday to Friday from 6:00-24:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00-24:00.
Connection by train from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to Amsterdam Central Station (day and night).
